Properly Maintain Your Sewing Machine With Sewing Machine Oil

The new-tech sewing machines (Pfaff, New Home, Bernina, etc.) with sealed electronics require only a drop of machine oil and only on the hook. For such a machine use only the high-speed precision machinery oil. You should consult the user’s manual for detailed instruction. When you are through with oiling replace the needle, presser foot and the bobbin, thread the machine and sew back and forth on a shred till you see absolutely clean stitches and may be confident there is no sign of sewing machine oil on them.
Cleaning and oiling is required regularly every 8-10 hours of work process. When quilting or working with flannel or fleece a more regular cleaning and oiling may be required. Remember that using any other kind of household oil (automotive, cooking, etc.) is not allowed and may irreparably damage your sewing machine. Although sewing machine oil has particular characteristics they still differ and you should use only the oil that is exactly fit for your type of machine.
You should keep in mind the following tips: the sewing machine oil must be clear and light (almost resembling thick water), 3-in-1 oil may not always be the best choice (it may clog fine workings), buy a top-quality oil (a small bottle will last very long), unplug the machine before starting cleaning and oiling it.
