Is Music Nearly Finished?

It could be just me but as far as innovation is concerned, it looks as though music has had its day. Since bands like the Happy Mondays and the Stone Roses in the nineties, there really does not seem to have been any new sounds emerging. Since that time it just seems more of the same old same old. The charts these days are full of songs that even my mother likes as they sound like music that was out when she was twelve - no innovation at all. Where is the Punk? What happened to challenging the system? Do we really have nothing to look forward to in terms of new music for the rest of our lives?
I despise the X factor and believe that Simon Cowell should be in prison somewhere for his crimes against music. And when a band like Jedward can get into the charts you have to wonder what is going on. My parents had a fear of the music in my day but today parents are probably sympathising with their children for the rubbish they have to listen to. And even though we did have to put up with the likes of Vanilla Ice in the eighties it is much worse now when bands are actually trying to be like him. Any muppet can now become a pop idol if they can get enough people to click on their YouTube link. Those in the music industry will tell you that it is piracy that is ruining the industry but if truth be known it is the lack of innovation and talent that is causing the problems. The only thing that I can think of that would be worse than listening to a Joe McElderry is having paid money for it.
I am a music lover but the state of things has really got me down lately. Maybe there just is nowhere else that music can go. Maybe everything that has been done already is all there is. It could even be that future generations will just have to enjoy the same music that we did but with some adjustments.
When it comes to large corporations, everybody has heard of virgin holidays. The absolutely huge company that was founded by British adventurer richard branson. Among many of the virgin brand names are virgin trains.
